When I founded Dog & Whistle, my mission was simple: create pet food that’s good for dogs and good for the planet. Over the years, that mission has grown into something much bigger — a chance to change the way the entire pet food industry thinks about nutrition and sustainability.
Most people don’t realize it, but traditional pet food creates millions of tons of waste and greenhouse gas emissions each year. From overproduction to discarded ingredients, the impact is staggering. But here’s the good news: it doesn’t have to be this way.
Turning Waste Into Nutrition
Since launching, Dog & Whistle has upcycled more than 13 tons of surplus, human-grade food into chef-inspired meals and treats for dogs. Instead of ending up in landfills, ingredients like chicken, beef, salmon, lentils, and vegetables are given new life as nourishing recipes pets love.
This is the circular economy in action. Every treat or meal we make reduces waste while giving dogs the clean, real food they deserve. For pet parents, it’s proof that sustainability and nutrition can live in the same bowl.
Building Nevada’s First Carbon-Neutral Pet Food Facility
Sustainability has to go beyond ingredients. That’s why we’re proud to be designing Nevada’s first carbon-neutral pet food facility — a space built from the ground up for efficiency, scale, and environmental impact.
Our vision is simple: to show that a U.S. pet food brand can lead not only in taste and health but also in carbon accountability. By integrating renewable energy and waste-reduction systems, we’re creating a model for what the future of pet care should look like.
A Brand Built on Trust, Not Ads
One of the things I’m most proud of is how we’ve grown. Unlike many consumer brands, Dog & Whistle hasn’t relied on massive ad budgets. Instead, our growth has come from community trust and word-of-mouth.
With 98% customer retention and 25% year-over-year sales growth, we’ve proven that when you combine transparency, quality, and purpose, people come back again and again. From local cafés and pet shops in Las Vegas to families across the U.S., our community is the heartbeat of our brand.
Inspired by Global Leaders, Leading in the U.S.
We’re inspired by brands like Lyka in Australia, who have shown that carbon-negative, upcycled pet food is not only possible but in demand. At Dog & Whistle, we’re proud to be pushing those principles forward here in the U.S. — proving that sustainability is not just an international movement, but a local one too.
